Because Humans Without Mistake Are #Worth100

Have you ever felt not enough, not fitting in, not catching up with society standards? Did anyone ever tell you that you were not bright enough, slender enough, pretty enough, good, enough? Isn't it time to embrace yourself?

Although now I have a very different understanding of  what being enough means or who I am. I used to believe that winning in sports or having straight As was the only path in order that I could make my family proud. Self-doubt and insecurities have a lot to do with not being accepted for who we are even if we are not "remarkable" according to standards.

You must know that In spite of doubting myself a lot; I also have  learned to believe in myself.  For every person who I encountered that  had doubts about my dreams or abilities. I always met one who supported my ideals and encouraged me or inspire me to be me.

I cannot imagine the world of kids who are constantly humilliated, bullied, minimized and they never had met someone that told them "You know what, it does not matter what others say or think of you; what matters is what do you think of yourself, believe in you, you are worth 100".

Let me tell you a story:

A few months ago walking with my son at a shopping center, a huge sign on the window called my attention. The title said #Worth100 and below it was a poem with the title “Enough Already”.  I was curious to find out if this had to do with gun violence, or women campaign #Metoo or any other campaign that inspire us humans to refuse others to victimize us.

I stopped and read the poem in detail. It was profound....In the midst of reading, I felt comforted by it as if all my life I have been waiting for someone to have likewise thoughts about human worthiness.

As most of the messages, books, words that have caught my attention through this years; I don’t believe was coincidence. I needed to read this.
I smiled certain that God diverted me to that window for a reason. It actually felt strange that a store that has the purpose to sell clothes had a poem that invited us to reflect about our existence.  The idea was that we are worth it without owning a single title under our belts, without any degrees, without any material accumulation, without make-up, without all the filters. "That's right", I said to myself.......We are not what we buy, what we accumulate, what we achieve, what we wear. No, we are enough being  ourselves; period.

Last week uploading some pictures, I saw the poem again and brought me all the way to my childhood and the birth of Giancarlo. It brought me to the song of Argentinean singer Facundo Cabral and  Alberto Cortez called “bombero” the story of a child who wanted to be firemen when he grew-up but his parents and grandparents spoke of him as if his future was all ready waiting for him becoming a lawyer.

The poem  “Enough Already” is a living testament of the pressure that many feel by the competing society in which we live.  By parents who expect only A’s, 1stplace on everything, excellence and nothing else. All of this educational and professional demands,  have left us to disregard who we are as a whole. We think we are not worth it if we are not like the examples on the magazines. Ultimately  we substitute our essence for achievements and try to believe that is the only way we will be Worth 100.

I sometimes get caught on this “indoctrinated” believes and panic about Gc’s education, health, future, etc.

Then I remind myself that we only have today and that Giancarlo needs his childhood and one day he will be still worth the same with a degree or without it, with a home or without it, with a car or without it, with religion or without it. I remind myself constantly that as a child and adult like the song of john Lennon, “All we need is Love”.

It is true that we have created a society in which we cannot live only out of Love, that money rules the world and we need money to survive, still we could all give more importance to our humane side than our material worthiness.

We can start by embracing ourselves regardless of who loves us or not. We must love ourselves. Then we have to go on and embrace every other human being for who they are not for what they have, and ultimately we must teach our children that they are worth 100 percent.

No more focusing on “what is he going to be when he grows up” but what is he now, seating next to us, let's enjoy their curiosity, creativity, imagination and free spirits. No more teasing them about “how sensitive they are”. If we take care of love, love will take care of the rest.

Yes, as hard to believe as it is, we are enough without measure.  Our sensitivity, vulnerability, compassion, empathy are all tools that Love uses for us to relate to each other.

Don’t ever let others minimize you, criticize you, make you feel less because you must know that regardless of what others say about you, you are #Worth100, so let them know you have had enough already. Use your words to communicate with respect and although you might feel alone you are not….

Love yourself regardless of others loving you or not. can you imagine 7 billion people filled with love and not hate for anyone? I dream and visualize it.

Og Mandino notified me when I was 16 that life on us is the biggest miracle on this world. Still in the daily basis, I have to remind myself when in doubt that nothing matters more than seeing the heart of everyone.

Let's keep doing what Leo Buscaglia will love to do if he were here on earth;living, loving and learning plus laughing... We are enough and Worth 100. Don't you agree?
